Create The Internet… It's What I Do EVERY Day – Joseph Yancey

Hire Me

Who am I

A Texas based professional specializing in web applications:

  • Do you need a computer programmer to get something done?
  • Do you have a brilliant idea for a website but not a lot of money to get it started?
  • Do you need a great website but can't find a reliable programmer?
  • Do you need a mobile application built?
  • Do you need to some get data from here to there?

For any technical computing task... Contact me

It might be

  • a custom web application
  • to develop and grow your existing website
  • an online store which accepts credit card payments
  • a content management system (CMS)
  • copy data from an old application to a new one
  • any other technical task which will have a tangible impact on your business goals

Why choose me for your task task?

I have years of experience. I know what I'm doing.

How much will it cost?

That depends: "How much is it worth?"

You control the cost. I've explored a number of different ways to charge for work and this approach seems to be one that works:

You tell me how much you want to spend, and I will respond with:

  1. a polite "you're kidding me right?", or
  2. a list of the features which will, and will not, be included, or
  3. a list of additional features we could include

Some people want steak and some want beans. I've tried all kinds of 'Requirements Analysis' techniques with unreliable success. The most reliable estimate system is simply; you tell me how you want to spend, and, if it sounds interesting, I bust my balls to get the best result I possibly can for your money.

Rest assured that if it's not going to work at all, I won't accept the job.

If I agree to do the job at your price, and I will direct you to one of these expectations:

  1. it will work for you today, but there's no guarantee that any of it will work tomorrow.
  2. it will do all that we agreed, for as long as we agreed, in the environment we agreed. And nothing more.
  3. it will be robust, reliable, extensible, bug free, and easy to maintain and be understood by other programmers

Ok, Sounds reasonable. I've worked out my budget. I'll hire you now...

Why would you choose me over an Indian/Rumanian/Swahilian?

I'm American like you. I speak English the way you do and know your culture the way you do. We communicate like countrymen,
not foreigners. I can see your market the way you do. I'm in your timezone. We can meet in person, speak on the phone, and build trust in each other upon our shared experience. I tend to work when you do and take holidays when you do.
Our financial arrangements have no international borders to cross. I have all the advantages and efficiencies a first world nation can offer. My deliverables are higher quality with less of your time invested.

I don't bait-and-switch by starting poorly specified projects then leading you along with "oh, but you didn't say it had to do that?! It will cost extra."

I won't declare "It works". That's where the developer declares "it works" without actually testing any of it. He reduces his own costs by giving you
the laborious task of making sure it really does work in a variety of scenarios. I think you should be able to give it the quick once-over and with confidence that all the lesser use cases have been tested. Whilst no programmer can guarantee his code is perfect and bug free, I do like to check there are none visible to the naked eye before handing it over.

My internet and electricity connections extremely rarely go down.

I don't really cost any more than a programmer working from a shanty in a third world. Food can be prepared cheaply anywhere in the world. I guess I pay a little more rent because of my success, but there are plenty of Americans who pay less rent than a computer programmer in Mumbai. Overall living expenses aren't as big a gap as you might think, and there are no middlemen siphoning out their cuts.

Why would you choose me over someone on a freelancing website?

I've tried those sites myself and found them very hard work. It's hard to trust someone on the other side of the

globe, and even in this day and age, trust remains a crucial part of business.
You could try a hundred 'backyard' providers on freelancing websites before you find someone
skilled, experienced, communicative, and trustworthy. Expect a lot of misses
before you find the one.

Or give me a call.

Why would you not choose me for your task?

Big projects; unless you're comfortable with slow, sustainable, long-term growth, at this point, I'm just one guy
with a few contacts, so there are limits to what can be achieved before tomorrow.

What professional experience do you have?

My resumé is quite long. The bulk of that experience is in designing and
building Web Applications and Web Services.

Companies I've completed works for include:

  • BadBoy Mowers
  • Liberty Bank of Arkansas
  • Fikes Trucking Line
  • UnitedWay of NEA

  • Dillard's Federal Credit Union
  • Jonesboro Chamber of Commerce
